I start this Photography Club for Women Meetup group back in June 2010. The goal was simple, a place for female who enjoy photography and a place to meet new friends to go out for photo trips. Women learn things differently than men, especially in learning photography. We don't really focus on Nikon or Canon or on how much you spend on the equipments or on software and techinal parts, etc. We care more on the feelings.
I don't know how to use Photoshop. I don't know multiple combinations of shutter speed and aperture can give the same exposure (1/250 s and f/8 is the same as with 1/500 s and f/5.6, or 1/125 s and f/11, really??). I can't memorise the shutter speeds sequence. I don't know how to calculate the shutter speed to the lens focal length for a handheld camera without blur. But that doesn't stop my from learning photography and create beautiful images (check my website).
In the beginning, I went to other photography related meetup group but usually men out number women in most cases. I find myself don't fit in because I don't get what they are talking about. So I start a Meetup just for women who enjoy phtography.
Last Saturday, we did a Food Photo Shoot Experiement in a local park. I split them up by Camera brand (so they can help each other on setting, exchange lenses), 3 people per group and they discuss what they want to bring to shoot. The subject were fruits and veggies, some bring doughnuts which doesn't require a kitchen.
I think it turned out better than I can plan for. They seems all had fun, enjoyed, and got some really nice images.
